'jOBS' biopic to close Sundance Film Festival in January

'jOBS' biopic to close Sundance Film Festival in January: "In an announcement on Monday, the Sundance Film Festival revealed that the jOBS biopic starring Ashton Kutcher will premier on the last day of the event which runs from Jan. 17 to 27, and will take the honor of being the event's closing film."

I actually think this is some good casting, as Kutcher was an engineering student before he wised up and became a celebrity.

Gangnam Style Is YouTube's Most Popular Video With 804 Million Views - Peter Kafka - Media - AllThingsD
Thursday was Thanksgiving. Yesterday was Black Friday. And today is Gangnam Style Day — the day the world’s most-popular-but-not-sure-why video became the most popular video on YouTube ever, with some 804 million views."
Not only is it the world's most popular YouTube video, but in the 10 days or so since I first heard about it (late to the party), it added 300 million views. Which points to exponential growth.

Review: iPad mini: "It’s important to understand how I use my iPad. My iPad is the device I use at the end of the day when I put my computer down, but still have a few things to do. I’m winding down at that point in the day."

This just in: love for the iPad Mini.

Final Cut Pro X gets significant update with new features & RED camera support

Final Cut Pro X gets significant update with new features & RED camera support: "The Final Cut Pro X update also includes RED camera support with native REDCODE Raw editing, as well as optional background transcode to Apple ProRes."

Everyone raves about the RED, with good reason. However, for HD at 720p, the Panasonic GF2 is more than more than good enough for film-quality principal photography.

'iPad mini' build cost estimated to start at $200, may retail for $299

'iPad mini' build cost estimated to start at $200, may retail for $299
A preliminary breakdown of expected component and manufacturing costs finds that Apple is likely to spend $195 to $254 in building the various models of its rumored 7.85-inch iPad"
I think the Mini will need to be more than $299 unless they are offering less storage than the iPod 5G. Why would anyone buy a $299 iPod 5G if they can get a mini iPad for the same price?

Microsoft Misses on Revenue and Earnings in Q1 - Kara Swisher - News - AllThingsD

Microsoft Misses on Revenue and Earnings in Q1 - Kara Swisher - News - AllThingsD: "One of the main things that Wall Street analysts had been watching for in the first-quarter earnings for Microsoft today was how its current flagship Windows software business was doing in the lead-up to the release of Windows 8 on October 26."

It's 20 years now since my head was entirely in Windows 3.1 SDK. Looking at Apple taking off it's a weird reminder about how being an early sometimes looks so foolhardy.

It's looking like all Apple from here on out...
